Wray Castle

We decided to walk to the National Trust property Wray Castle on Tuesday as the weather forecast promised us a nice day.

Wray Castle is at the edge of Lake Windermere and not too far from Ambleside, and there are off road footpaths most of the way making it a pleasant walk.

The Castle was interesting, it was built in Victorian times and had been a conference centre before the National Trust acquired it so it isn’t like most big houses, there are few period features, but it does mean you can explore!

We walked back to Ambleside and then did an extra loop via Rydal Hall before returning to our cottage.

We had an ice cream to keep us going!

Rydal Hall had some interesting yarn based sculptures and a pretty waterfall.

It was a very long day and we really needed our dinner! We went to Dodd’s again as we enjoyed it so much the first time. I had black pudding to start, then pizza, and then cheesecake!
