Our flight home was in the evening so we had until about 4pm in Williamsburg. We started our day with pancakes at Egg.
After breakfast we went up onto the roof of the apartment building to enjoy the views for one last time.
We did some last minute shopping including Mast Brothers Chocolate, and the Brooklyn Art Library where we saw all the books in the Sketchbook Project. We had to repack our cases again to fit everything in!
We had iced tea and sandwiches for lunch.
Then we went to JFK Airport. At the airport we had a small snack of pretzel sticks before our flight.
Now we are home and really need some sleep!
We had an earlier start this morning than recent days to make the most of our last full day in New York. Pauly and I went out to Bakeri to buy tasty stuff for breakfast. We had orange brioche and banana bread.
We took a trip on the East River Ferry that goes under the Williamsburg Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge. It goes really fast!
We took the ferry to Pier 11 and then walked along to the Staten Island Ferry terminal. We went over on the ferry and came straight back again! The views of Manhattan are great and you go quite near to the Statue of Liberty.
Our next stop was the High Line. We walked it last year, but on the 21 September (the day before we went) they opened a whole new section! It was really nice to walk along it again and see the new area.
We came off the High Line on 34th Street and kept walking. We saw the Empire State Building and Macy’s.
We had lunch at a Japanese restaurant as Pauly fancied sushi. I had some of Zoë’s tempura vegetables and Pauly’s sushi!
The final activity of our last full day in New York was another trip to the Yankees. We got there quite early and had time to see Monument Park.
The game was quite exciting, but it felt like everyone was just there to see Derek Jeter, which was very exciting!
We went to the brilliant Williamsburg Flea that we enjoyed last year. There were so many stalls selling things we wanted to buy!
We had a spinach and paneer dosa for lunch, it was very tasty.
After the Flea we walked down to Franklin Street where the Dew Tour was taking place. This was a skateboarding event that was really good fun to watch.
There were lots of free things including Mountain Dew ice cream made using liquid nitrogen and a cement mixer!
In the evening we went out for burgers and then cocktails. We also enjoyed looking at the Manhattan skyline.
Smorgasburg is an amazing event packed full of stalls selling really yummy food. It is on every weekend and was only a few blocks from our apartment.
I ate lots of tasty things including, a beetroot burger, a pork pancake, a mini cheesecake, and a tiny muffin that tasted of Spain.
Once we could no longer eat any more at Smorgasburg we went to a big shopping centre and bought more stuff!
Then we went to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. This was great and the views were brilliant!
Once we were in Manhattan Paul thought we might as well try another pinball place as it wasn’t far away. It was like the Silverball Museum and we paid for one hour. The machines were all relatively new. It was good fun.
We had thai food for dinner when we got back to Williamsburg. It was really yummy.
We started our day with pancakes at Egg again, but not until nearly lunchtime!
We took the Subway over to Manhattan to do some sightseeing. There were lots of famous and interesting buildings we wanted to see. First we stopped at the Guggenheim. Lots of the inside was shut due to the setup of a new exhibition so we didn’t go in. It is an amazing building, we really enjoyed looking at it.
We walked down 5th Avenue alongside Central Park, we went passed the Met, but decided not to go in there either.
We got a little bit hungry and stopped for some cheesecake.
We continued walking downtown, but this time on Park Avenue. We saw the Waldorf Astoria. It was quite impressive!
Next we made a detour into Grand Central Station.
The main purpose of our walk was to see the New York Public Library. Another impressive building. Unfortunately the main reading room was shut!
For our final sight to see we went to see the Chrysler Building, it is such a lovely piece of architecture! We also went into the lobby, amazing!
We ended up in Little Italy where a big festival was taking place. It was very loud, colourful and vibrant.
After walking along some of the stalls we headed back to Williamsburg. At about 11pm we went to the Nitehawk Cinema for a drink at the bar and then at 12.10am saw a film! We watched Heavenly Creatures. It was fun as you can order food and drink at your seat! We didn’t get back home until well after 2am!
We set off for Coney Island to explore the seaside in Brooklyn. Luna Park was closed so we couldn’t go on any rides, but we still had fun, and a hot dog!
Our next stop was Farmacy for milkshakes and grilled cheese. It was a very pretty place to eat.
In the evening we went to Yankee Stadium to see some more baseball. The Yankees were playing the Blue Jays. The Yankees won and it was quite an exciting game. Derek Jeter scored a home run. It is his last season and he is a big star so this was very exciting!
We started our day with breakfast at Egg. Zoë and I had pancakes.
We then went exploring some more of Williamsburg and saw lots of interesting things.
We had some early evening cocktails at a rooftop bar. We also had a pretzel to nibble on before dinner.
For dinner we went back to Oregano. Zoë and I had gnocchi and then a Nutella pizza for dessert. It was huge and really yummy!
